NEW USERS: Take a few minutes to read the information below so you can make the most of CNWbyWEB.

It is often best to download the PDF Contents Page to your computer by either “saving as” or “Save to desktop.” Once done, you can access CNWbyWEB documents directly from your computer without having to visit this part of the site every time you need pieces of data.

To access a document, click on the document number. Once you open the file in Excel you can include the data in your own database by saving the file. To return to the Contents Page, click the back arrow.

One additional hint: Virtually all pages are protected. However, you can copy the entire contents to a new Excel sheet by simply clicking on the top left corner of the sheet. This is just above the row numbers and left of the column letters. (See below.) This will highlight the entire page. Use your usual method of “copy.”

Open a new Excel sheet. Then “paste”. Make sure that the cursor on your new Excel sheet is in row “1,” column “A” before pasting.

Searching for a Topic. We have tried various methods to make using the extensive list of documents easier to search.

In “Excel” you can use the “find” method. Control + F keys; insert simple or partial word such as “leas” for all documents related to leasing.

The same method can be used in the PDF version.

WE RECOMMEND, however, that you use Google Desktop Search which has been vastly improved and very effective. It is a simple download. Previous versions automatically sent information to Google, but that feature can now be disabled easily so your searches remain private.

1. Go to GOOGLE DESKTOP and download the software. This is a quick process.

2. Click on “Agree and Download”

3. Click on “Run”

After installing Desktop Search, modify it to your tastes. Once done, click on “Preferences” and click again on the far right tab (Other). Turn off the reporting feature to keep Google from receiving information from your computer.

USING GOOGLE DESKTOP FOR CNWbyWEB

1. Click on the Google Desktop Icon.

2. In the “search” box, type in the string for the topic you are interested in.

3. NOTE: To limit the search just to CNWbyWEB documents, type in CNW, Document (singular, not plural), and then the topic. USE COMMAs between the search words such as this:

CNW, Document, Hybrid Sales

If you have elected to have Google Sidebar on your desktop (which we also recommend) use the “Scratchpad” gadget to type notes about the document number seen in the search results. It will make relocating these documents easier.

You can eliminate other gadgets by RIGHT clicking and deleting or simply click on the “X” in the top right corner of each gadget.

Before copying an entire Excel spreadsheet, click on the space above Row 1 and Left of Column A.

Text Box: Paste with cursor in Column A, Row 1
